We will no longer be servicing the e-mail portion of the website. Our e-mail provider is not very user friendly and is not practical for the amount of work it requires. Please do not hesitate to reference the contacts tab and phone one of the numbers there if you can't find the info you are looking for elsewhere on the site.
Cheers.
There will be a work party at the Kootenay Mx
Track this Sunday, September 14 to get the cross country loop in shape for the
upcoming Tree Hugger Race. This race brings in most of the money we need
to pay our yearly insurance and lease obligations so it is important that we all
chip in and help to make it the best we can.
Please bring chainsaws, shovels
etc if you can or just yourself and a few buddies!
Please call
Aaron Seminoff (250-352-3191 or 359-5985) for more info or to let him know you
can help on Sunday even if just for a couple of hours!! Every little bit helps!
aug 14/08
The moto track will be temporarily closed (x/c still open away from the actual track) in order to clean-up after last weekends water system installation. The turnout of volunteers was OK (a huge thank-you to all that did). Lots of work was done. The water reservior tanks have been placed and plumbed. The water pipe has been laid, but there are many hazzards as the trenches haven't been backfilled yet. The equipment supplier has offered to leave some equipment during the week. Some people have volunteered to work on the track during the week back-filling trenches as well as making an effort to removed many more rocks from the track (sweet). Although the water system may not not be fully completed, last weekends work is a huge obsticle out of the way. Continued work on the water system can be carried in the future without disrupting the entire track surface.
We will be updating the site contiually as information becomes available or the status of the track changes. Cheers.
aug 8/08
The water system is scheduled to begin installation this weekend, aug 9&10. Heavy equipment and supplies are in place. WE DO HOWEVER REQUIRE VOLUNTEERS!! Please, if you have any time on saturday or sunday from 8am-6pm your help will be appreciated. This is your facility and this is a huge step to improving the quality of riding at the track. It takes a big effort to co-ordinate machinery, supplies and volunteers and it is important that we capitolize on this opportunity-please do your part!!
Riding will be unavailable this weekend due to the construction at the track.
See "contact us" heading on this website for related info. Thanks everyone!
aug 8/08
The track will be open each sunday and wednesday in august. Wed hours are 4:30pm-8pm and sun 10am-5pm.

sun, july 13 from 10am-5pm.
wed, july 16 from 4:30-8pm.

We need track operators. We cannot commit to a defined schedule until we have enough track operators to fill the calendar for the season. In the meantime check back to the site regularly for track availability.
See "contact us" heading on this website for related info. Thanks everyone!

There will be a work party at the Bombi KMX riding facility on Saturday June 7 at 9am. Please pass it on to anyone and bring/motivate everyone that you can. Saturday will be set aside to prep the track. Everyone that helps on Saturday rides for free on Sunday starting at 10 am. There will be heavy equipment there working as well. Everyone is encouraged to bring rakes and shovels if you have them (although not necesary) a pair of work-type gloves would also be a good idea. The club will be providing some food and drink.
Come on out and help start the season off with a bang!! See "contact us" heading on this website for related info. Thanks everyone!

We conducted our AGM last Friday as previously announced. Once going through the election process, we finalized our executive for 2008. Jeff Holman is taking over from outgoing President Bruce Baker. Stephen Shannon is taking over from outgoing Vice President Shawn Seminoff. Pat Kellar is moving over as Treasurer from Secretary. Craig Randall is moving over as Secretary from Treasurer. Dena Brown is stepping down as Co-Secretary.
With the enthusiasm of the new executive, the Society will continue to thrive. The priorities for the upcoming season remain consistent with the previous executive. Primarily the goal is to open the track as soon as snow melt will allow (with the late spring, probably early May). The water system components which we have already purchased and acquired will be installed as soon as possible (probably sometime in June). From there the main objective will be to continue to improve the quality of the MX track dirt, as well as regular track grooming.
There will be another meeting on Thursday, May 8th at 7:30 pm. Stay tuned for location. The meeting is open to all members and non-members. We will be selling memberships, setting up work parties (water system install, mx track prep, etc.), signing up track operators, and providing information for all those interested. The more people that attend the meeting, the better able we will be to coordinate the efficiency of some of these projects (workable dates, etc).
For more info see the "contact us" heading on the home page. Thank-you everyone for your support. Pass it on and see you there. If you intend to purchase a membership please bring a cheque if you have them.
mar 30/08
The 2008 AGM will be thursday April 3 at the Castlegar Community Complex in the Monashee Room starting at 7pm. We will be conducting elections for the year as well as providing an update on the society. Also we will be discussing a framework and setting goals for the season. Should be good! We have reserved a large room (150 people) so there'll be lots of room. EVERYONE IS WELCOME. Come out and stand in the corner or ask questions, we'd love to see (and hear from) you!! Come out and support dirt-bike riding in the area and help the society continue to develop!
E-mail us at: WKRDAS@kootenaymx.com for more info.
2008 memberships will be available. Please try and pay with a cheque. Membership prices will be unchanged from '07 unless we vote differently as a society on this night.
mar 1/08
We will be anouncing a date for the AGM soon (late mar/early apr approx meeting date). Most of the executive positions will require volunteers to take over. The work involved could, at a minimum be very little or maybe you are more ambitious; either way the positions need to be filled to avoid the deactivation of the riding area. Previous executive members are willing to offer guidance but are no longer able to sit on the executive.
The society is in good shape heading into 2008. There is money in the bank. It has in it's possesion all the parts necesary to construct a watering system. It is on the 2008 BC x/c race schedule with all the pieces in place for a fourth consecutive successful running of the event.
Last spring was great. We had 80 or 90 paid members last year. There were a number of days when 60 people came out to ride and watch. Everyone was having a blast! Things slowed down once we hit the hot summer months, but hopefully we can get the watering system installed this summer and keep the fun going right through to the fall.
We are just waiting for the snow to melt! Keep your eyes peeled and come out to meeting and help the society continue to develop!
E-mail us at: WKRDAS@kootenaymx.com for more info.

The Tree Hugger Harescramble (TH) is on! I just got off the phone with TH course marking crew and they were stoked on the shape of the course. "No dust, no snow, the traction is unbelievable" were their comments.
I also just spoke with the PN folks and they will be here as well with the transponder set-up. They have two programs either $5 for the day or $10 for "lifetime" use or you can opt out all-together. It's pretty cool to be able to see exactly where you are every lap, especially when you are doing 3-7 laps (depending on the class and your speed).
The TH course is appox 18km long that will take the masters 35 min per loop. We have removed a road section and replaced it with a beautiful single-track section. The really dusty stuff from past years should ride awesome this year. We will use portions of the mx track, routing around whoop sections, etc. Race cut-off times will be 2hrs (B) and 3hrs (A), we are doing a sportsman race on a shortened course as well. Camping and campfires will be allowed at the track site, but there won't be any man-routed water available this year. Sign-in @ 8am. Start times are 9am (sportsman) and 11am (everyone else).
Come on out and ride or spectate-it should be a gooder!! Call 250-399-4535 (Bruce) or 250-352-3191 (Aaron) for more info.
sept 20/07
The track will be open Sun Sept 23 from 10am-5pm.
The track won't be open for evenings any more this year unless there is some kind of special arrangement-it's dark too early.
We are looking for some volunteers to help clean-up a few hundred meter section of bush so we can get an excavator in to hopefully install THE water line. If we can get five guys with saws it should be done in a few hours. Also if we had some people to toss the cut stuff aside it would be super helpful. The work is to be done on Sun Sept 30. Call Craig @ 505-1179 to confirm. Thank-you.
sept 13/07
The track will be open Sun Sept 16 from 10am-5pm. The track conditions are very dusty and dry. This doesn't allow us to groom the track because it will just blow away and not help the dust. The rocks are bad and causing flats. Consider the track closed unless it ti stated otherwise here. Check back here regularly.
sept 10/07
The track will be open Wed Sept 12 from 5pm till dusk. The track conditions are very dusty and dry. This doesn't allow us to groom the track because it will just blow away and not help the dust. The rocks are bad and causing flats. We'll just have to wait for some water to re-open.
aug 29/07
The track will NOT be open Wed August 29. The track conditions are very dusty and dry. This doesn't allow us to groom the track because it will just blow away and not help the dust. The rocks are bad and causing flats. We'll just have to wait for some water to re-open.
aug 24/07
The track will be open Sun August 26 from 1-5pm. The track conditions are very dusty. No riders showed up on Wed. We'll see how it goes on Sun. We are trying to assemble an effort to install the watering system again very soon.
july 26/07
We had a group assembled and 2 excavators to install a water system on SAT and SUN. Once again due to the weather, heavy equipment work in the bush has to be shut down early. As a result we will be postponing the water system installation until further notice. Hopefully we can get the system in in the next few weeks.
The track will be closed until further notice.
july 18/07
The WKRDAS Treehugger Harescramble slated for July 22/07 has been postponed. When we come up with a date we will post it. The forest is drier than it was for last years event (which was really bad) and we have been advised by forestry to postpone the event. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
june 19/07
The track won't be available for open riding till 1:00pm on Sunday June 24 because there is a closed kids ride session from 10:00-1:00 first. For more info check the EVENTS heading on the HOMEPAGE.
june 16/07
We had a fellow at the track today with his Kabota tractor. He spent the better part of the day going over the track. Although the machine didn't remove the rocks like we had hoped, it certainly loosened up the dirt. While he was at it, he was able to smooth out the bumps and put a nice finnish down. By the way, Bradey, Shawn and Bruce picked MANY MANY ROCKS BY HAND, don't be afraid to take a little initiative in this department once in a while!! It sure does make a difference!! The track was ridden by Shawn Seminoff and he said it was great! Although the rocks are there, the surface is loose so they don't affect you the same way. Just pin it and grin
As of today the track is very dry and therefore dusty--pray for rain. Remember the track isn't available for open riding till 1:00pm tomorrow because there is a closed girls ride session from 9:00-1:00 first. For more info check the EVENTS heading on the HOMEPAGE.

Castlegar Community Complex, the columbia room. The agenda will focus on: the June riding school / club race, the July Tree Hugger harescramble race and track operators. We are going to need some volunteers for both events, especially the riding school / race. It is our first event of this kind and we would like input. The harescramble is in it's 3rd year and is a success. We know what we are doing, but we still need bodies.
We are puting forth a track operator program. In order for any member to have their own key for the track they need to sign up for 5 days in the entire season (May-October) of opening / running the track. Having a key allows a member the opportunity to go ride on a more flexible and spontaneous basis. It isn't a difficult task. The more people that sign up the more potential there is to open the track more frequently. You must be atleast 21 years to be considered.
So you see, there are many reasons to come out to the meeting. Please join us and help grow the club. The meeting is open to non-members as well. Please watch the website and listen for date coming soon.
apr 17/07
Anyone that is interested in passing along a race report from an event they attended, please do. E-mail some words and a few photos to us at wkrdas@kootenaymx.com and we will try to get it on the site.
